The Hilton Hotel, adjacent to East Midlands Airport, was the venue, on 22nd and 23rd of May 2017 for the 82nd Entry, RAF Halton, 30th consecutive annual reunion, arranged and coordinated by Nigel Bacon and Margaret. Some of us arrived on Sunday 21st and made a three night stay and the balance stayed over for the Monday and Tuesday evenings. The hotel was fine, friendly and efficient staff and comfortable accommodation. There was a ‘meet and greet’ in the bar on arrival and on Monday evening we enjoyed a choice of a hot or a cold fork buffet. Along, of course, with the many stories and memorable photographs from way back! The weather was really great and many enjoyed various activities in the most pleasant local area on the Tuesday including the National Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffs.
We assembled in the bar the same evening, I guess this has become a habit, before we assembled for a group photograph taken by George Wade and then a total of 35, including our ladies, enjoyed the 3-course gala dinner. The subsequent raffle raised £215 and the table flower centres were sold for a total of £40, all to the entry fund. Then, as one might expect we heard ‘do you remember.......’?, oft repeated. Well, that is what reunions are all about, surely??
Then, farewells were exchanged on Wednesday, at breakfast and all departed for various destinations. Another notch on the totem pole!!
Two new faces attended this year in Al Doughty and Richard White and it seemed that they enjoyed the experience. It was great to touch base again after so many years and we trust that we shall see them again.
Details for Reunion 2018 will be posted on this website as soon as they have been organised, we have agreed that it will be held at the Holiday Inn at Aston Clinton on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th May. This will be the same year as 60 years from our graduation (December 1958) and we intend to make it a memorable occasion and will endeavour to arrange entry to your old stamping grounds.
